Many will argue that gentrification is bringing positive changes by saying that it is helping the economy to grow at a faster rate by increasing the rental and business price. Although that might be true, we need to look at the consequences of gentrification. One direct result of gentrifying a community of minorities is hundreds of families being forced out of their houses and hundreds of small businesses being shut down, how will these people get back on their feet? Gentrification is horror for the poor and an ideal opportunity for the rich to invest in property and become more prosperous. Gentrification is not fair for everyone, residents are not treated equally, they are forgotten since they are not able to fit the new standards of Harlem. They become strangers in their homes.
